Virtz Soundboxes

Harry Virtz was a Russian watchmaker who turned his skills to making and marketing soundboxes.

Virtz used existing soundboxes, like the HMV No2 and HMV Exhibition. He added a cross bar to the base of the soundboxes which allowed the soundbox more flexibility in "tuning" and added an airtight rubber isolator for connecting the soundbox to the tonearm. These soundboxes seem quite crude but they were well received and reviewed by the growing number of audiophiles. Virtz also designed a tonearm in 1924 which was taken up by EXPERT Hand Made Gramophones. The double bend pivot reduced tracking error.

Update 23 Feb 2023: Added an early Virtz soundbox based on the European Pianina Grand Concert. It's the only soundbox I have seen that allows for the adjustment of the angle of the stylus bar.
