Lifebelt, Balmain Horn & Orchorsol soundbox

The Lifebelt was a flexible rubber tubing that connected the soundbox to the tonearm. This flexibility allowed the soundbox to reproduce a wider range of frequencies, especially lower bass registers. The Orchorsol soundbox used an elaborate adjustment frame that allowed these soundboxes to be positioned and aligned correctly, enhancing reproduction.

Rev L.D. Griffith. The inventor of the "Lifebelt"
