Garrard / Columbia 5: Emo spring advertisements from August 1925

  • Single 1” spring
  • Cast Iron frame with flat steel base plate
  • Slotted crank
  • Introduced oiling channels into cast frames. Oiling the main spindle would allow any access or spill oil to trickle along the channels and oil several gears.

Garrard / Columbia 7: Emo spring advertisements from August 1925

  • A massive motor. The only triple spring motor made by Garrard, and it was for Columbia
  • Vertical mounted triple 1” springs
  • Unique sump for oil. A wick took the oil up into a well around the turntable spindle from where it could trickle along channels to various bearings. All later Garrard motors did not use a sump & wick method but all did use channels. Oiling the main spindle would allow any access or spill oil to trickle along the channels and oil several gears.

  • As the Garrard/Columbia 7 but with an improved governor control.
  • Vertical mounted triple 1” springs
  • Change of spring fixings. Key hole and hole.
  • Unique sump for oil. A wick took the oil up into a well around the turntable spindle from where it could trickle along channels to various bearings. All later Garrard motors did not use a sump & wick method but all did use channels. Oiling the main spindle would allow any access or spill oil to trickle along the channels and oil several gears.
